String Instruments are inseparable parts of almost every music form. There are countless variants of musical instruments where the tones are produced by strings. And strings are popular among all parts of the world and all music forms.
You can classify a string instrument based on how you vibrate the strings. Where the instrument's string or strings are plucked by finger or plectrum are mandolin, guitar, balalaika, banjo, sitar, Koto and countless others. The other from is where the string of instrument is plucked by keyboard like harpsichord and spinet.
Another way for vibration of string is to rub it with the help of bow. The bow instruments are mostly of the violin family and include violin, cello, kemence, and rebab. Also there are instruments where the player strikes the strings like santoor and keyboard instruments like piano and clavichord. Apart from these, there are thousands of other indigenous musical instruments in different parts of the world.
The underlying principle of all instruments of this form is that they produce music by vibration of strings. The resonating chamber also known as the sound board amplifies the sound of vibration of string and produces music.
These stringed music instruments come in different shapes and sizes. There are music instruments that you can take with you in a carry case or a music stand. Some instruments have electric versions in which electric power is used for amplification of sound. Like the shape and size of instruments, there are different types of strings, which are made of vegetable fiber, metal, animal gut, and plastic.
