Line 6 Space Chorus

Review of the Line 6 Space Chorus by The Man in the Jar

Chorus and Vibrato - Delicious!

Line 6 Space Chorus

Features of the Line 6 Space Chorus

Construction - This is an extraordinarily robust pedal and is very heavy. The all metal construction means your chorus would survive a tour of duty with the US Marines (just don't put a Canadian flag on it).

Ins and Outs - Two jacks in and two jacks out for stereo, use the left in and left out for mono operation.

Power - One 9 volt battery or optional power supply.

Controls - There are three knobs:
Speed controls the number of sweeps per second (this can be tap controlled too);
Depth changes the character of the effect from subtle to dramatic;
Color (yes, spelt the in Bill Gates' favorite way) is a multi-tasking control. For the Chorus mode it allows you to sweep from vintage tones to modern tones. For the Tri Mode it sweeps from warm and mellow to shimmering and bright. For the Vibrato Mode it switches between vintage, blue and Euro styles.
A three way switch selects Chorus, Vibrato or Tri (which is a richer multi-voiced chorus).

Sound of the Line 6 Space Chorus

Chorus - This is a suberb basic chorus that takes you from a lovely subtle layering of your sound to a dangerous wobbling madness via all points between. In general I preferred the Color knob over on the left for the more vintage feel to the sound.

Tri - A much lusher layer cake of chorus that is instantly addictive, the "buy-me" demons started whispering their sweet nothings in my ears when I started exploring the Tri option. The Color knob hovered on the mellow side as my preference.

Vibrato - I found the Color setting on Blue with 1/3 Speed and 3/4 Depth gave a subtle edge to a great blues soloing sound.

Overall Impressions of the Line 6 Space Chorus

If you care about your guitar sound you should have already have a chorus. Believe me, this one is better than the one you've got. If you haven't got one, you should buy this one before someone notices and people start pointing at you in the street.
The Tri setting is phenomenal and the Chorus setting allows many subtle stages of chorus enhancements to be had. The Vibrato is useful for vintage sounds or particular cover-versions where the effect is demanded for authenticity.

I shall be re-evaluating my stomp-box set-up because I can't think of a good reason for not including the Space Chorus.
