Danelectro Pepperoni Phaser
Danelectro Pepperoni Phaser reviewed by The Man in the Jar
Features of the Danelectro Pepperoni Phaser
Construction - This is a tough little moulded dark blue plastic case. The small size of the unit dictates the small size of the knob ( ! ). A chunky plastic sleeve (not illustrated) can be fitted over the top half of the unit to protect the knob from being stepped on on-stage, this would normally be removed for home or studio use.
Ins and Outs - Standard jack in and jack out.
Power - One 9 volt battery or optional dc power transformer.
Controls - Single Speed control teamed up with a red LED to indicate activity and a discreet circular footswitch to knock the thing in and out of line.
Sound of the Danelectro Pepperoni Phaser
There's only one control here so this unit has to be one of the simplest effects to use. Set at minimum the phaser gives a subtle, laid-back lush feeling to strummed rhythms and lead breaks. Taken up to one o'clock I found I was in blissed-out and chopped-up rhythm guitar land, I was beginning to feel the need for a bandana. This rather interesting territory lasts until you pass three o'clock. Between three and five o'clock the speed of the phase increases expotentially ending in a fast, squelchy tremelo wobble
Overall Impressions of the Danelectro Pepperoni Phaser
I like this little unit despite the fact that it only has one control. Most of the scope of that control produces sounds that most guitarists could use live or in the studio.
Incidentally this unit teams up really nicely with the Danelectro Milkshake Chorus when both are run together on the same signal. Keeping both units in the mid-range of their respective settings produces a lovely complex, layered sound for chordal work.
