Danelectro FAB Flange
Review of the Danelectro FAB Flange Flanger by The Man in the Jar
Fab Flange sounds like a compliment you might pay your girlfriend... or not?
Features of the Danelectro FAB Flange
Construction - The Fab has a modernist look about it with raised mouldings housing the control knobs that look like the fins on a '50s Cadillac. The body is made of plastic with a metal bottom plate. As on Danelectro's "lunchbox" models the plate is removable by unscrewing a single large plastic screw (which can conveniently be operated by a 1p coin if you leave your tool-kit at home). This exposes the entire interior to give access to the battery compartment.
Ins and Outs - Standard jack in and jack out.
Power - One 9 volt battery or optional dc power transformer.
Controls - Regeneration, Speed and Depth
Sound of the Danelectro FAB Flange
I prefer messing about with modulators more than distortions or overdrives and the Flanger is one of the most interesting.
The Depth controls the range and sweep of the effect. The Speed controls the frequency of those sweeps and the Regeneration causes the Flanger to "feedback" signal to itself and can create effects from the sublimely subtle to the downright freaky.Overall Impressions of the Danelectro FAB Flange
The best mixes are to be found in the mid-range of the controls and experimenting with the unit quickly becomes addictive. Chopping out funky rhythms becomes a fascinating interplay between strings and effect.
