Danelectro FAB Chorus
Review of the Danelectro FAB Chorus by The Man in the Jar
Chorus is the one essential Desert Island effect for all guitarists. Even minimal addition of Chorus fattens your sound in a satisfying way. But watch out, it's addictive.
Features of the Danelectro FAB Chorus
Construction - The Fab has a modernist look about it with raised mouldings housing the control knobs that look like the fins on a '50s Cadillac. The body is made of plastic with a metal bottom plate. As on Danelectro's "lunchbox" models the plate is removable by unscrewing a single large plastic screw (which can conveniently be operated by a 1p coin if you leave your tool-kit at home). This exposes the entire interior to give access to the battery compartment.
Ins and Outs - Standard jack in and jack out.
Power - One 9 volt battery or optional dc power transformer.
Controls - Mix, Speed and Depth.
Sound of the Danelectro FAB Chorus
The Depth controls the sweep of the Chorus and the Speed controls the frequency of the sweeps. The general rule is that less Depth allows you to use more Speed and less Speed allows for more Depth. A real bonus is the Mix control that allows you to determine the level of the modulated signal against the level of the dry (unprocessed) signal.
The Mix even allows you to disobey the Speed versus Depth rule by dialling in a fast psycho-wobble and mixing it way down behind your dry sound. Great fun!Overall Impressions of the Danelectro FAB Chorus
If you need a good affordable Chorus then this is certainly one to consider. The Mix control makes this little box a steal for the price.
