The MXR EVH117 Flanger came from a partnership between Dunlop and Eddie Van Halen, putting a new spin on classic tone! The MXR EVH117 Flanger delivers the sound from Van Halen tunes like Unchained, and And the Cradle Will Rock. Bring Van Halen's signature tone into your setup, now with even more sonic options than the original! Featuring the sweeping, whooshing tones you'd expect from a classic MXR flanger, the MXR EVH117 Flanger includes a special EVH switch which calls up Eddie's sound on Unchained, with the Manual, Speed, Width, and Regeneration knob settings he used. Adorned with the signature stripes from Eddie's instantly recognizable Frankenstein guitar, you get epic tone from the MXR EVH117 Flanger!

Flanging dates back from the era of open reel tape recorders. The same signal was recorded on two open reel recorders, then played back summed together and recorded onto a third machine. The tape operator would touch one of the playing machine's reel flanges, the flange being the rim of the reel, briefly slowing down one of the playing machines and so delaying one playback signal. The short timing differences between the two playback signals resulted in a sweeping comb filter effect rich in harmonics that came to be known as flanging.
