| Hi, I'm looking to buy a Epiphone custom les paul guitar and amp. This would be my first electric guitar and I'm wondering if this would be a good choice (they certainly look good). As for the amp, I havn't got a clue which one to buy and would they all be compatable with the guitar I'm looking to get? I don't need a large amp as I would only be playing around the house.
any advice would be welcome. |

| In my opinion, an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra is a better option, but some would disagree.
How much are you looking to spend on an amp? Check the Roland Cubes and Line 6 Spiders out.

| Although i do think you are spending a bit much on your first guitar, (i don't know how good you are or how long you have been playin) it is your choice. It might be good to go for a standard strat as a starter (although make it a fender).
Amp wise, the Kustom KGA10fx is an amazing little amp in my opinion.

| Thanks for your advice guys. I should have mentioned earlier, That I have been playing accoustic guitars for a while, ( I currently have a Taylor 510 ) but this would be my first elecric and I was hoping to enter the world of electric guitars at a level where I wouldn't have to upgrade after a short while. Having said that, I'm no where near as accomplished as some of the people on here.
The kustum amp looks ok for around the house which is all I need, but I'm now looking at the spider jam model. Is this over the top for what I want? any info would be welcome. |

| At a risk of repeating myself, I'd recommend the Laney LC15R as an amp. It's a quality, all-valve combo that's still small and light enough to have around the house, but the sound you'll get out of it is way better than what you'll get from a modelling combo or practice amp - you'd most likely want to replace that amp fairly soon (particularly if you've got a reasonable quality guitar to play through it). As for the guitar, an Epiphone would be an excellent choice, but I wouldn't be me if I didn't say "buy an Ibanez"

| | Cheers spacehog. I'll take all the advice on board. The Roland cube is looking good at the moment, I know its small, but its cheap enough to pass it on if I ever feel the need for a larger amp. |
