| hi am plannin to do a gig so...,
Do the guitar amps really need to be 50+ watts in a gig even if the output jack from the amps go to a mixer with very good and loud PA?
we'll be doing in an auditorium wit the capacity of 1200+. Any advice will be very much appreciated. |

| The problem onstage is being able to hear yourself properly. If the PA has a good monitoring system (ie wedge monitors that feedback your choice of the mix to you) then the power of your amp is immaterial. If it's a bog-standard PA with a couple of columns, you'll probably be almost behind the PA speakers so it's best to have a 100w plus combo that you can tilt/point at the place you intend to stand.

| The Line 6 Spider III is a superb amp at 75 watts and keeps you under £200. Click here to see one.

| i believe with this amp there will be two options,
mic the amp - this is an option with any guitar amp
and also I believe (although dont quote me because i havent double checked) that this amp has a DI out where the signal can be taken from the amp to the PA desk, so on this im just off to check this out.
EDIT: I have just been looking and can neither confirm or deny the DI out function, i know it was available on one of the SPider amps as I used to have one... but whether it is this one I dont know. Could Man In The Jar look into this?

| The Spider has no DI out, except the headphone socket, which of course mutes the speaker. But you could mic it with one of these CLICK HERE and get almost the exact same performance.
