Hi All,

Having taken delivery of the above from imuso on Monday I felt I should write something to say how great this guitar is and I haven't got to really know it yet.
I already have an Ovation Applause AE28-4 Electro Acoustic which I purchased from imuso a wee while ago along with a Laney LA30C amp (always been a fan of Laney amps) plus a Vintage V100 Icon LP copy again purchased from imuso. But I have been checking out the Epiphone Dot in my local music shop for a wee while but thought that imuso offered the better deal, local shop £395 and no case, imuso £319 and a hard case so no contest really :-).
So on Friday I went ahead and ordered it, as always the service was excellent and I think I may have managed to get the last Dot Cherry in stock. I had spoken to Ian the day before to check delivery and he mentioned that he thought there was one left in stock otherwise it would have been the Natural. Yes I am a big fan of imuso.
My brother always had Gibson semis and he had a 335 I coveted. But I can’t afford the Gibson price tag hence the checking out of Epi's. “It’s a Gibson Jim but not as we know them”

Well after unpacking I checked it out for damage and it was perfect the hard case that came with the guitar is definitely a bonus. After allowing the guitar to adjust to room temperature I set it up, tuned it, checked intonation and action which straight out of the box was good. I should also say that the cherry colour is great very deep as described by The Man in the Jar in his review of the same guitar. The Dot is not a heavy guitar which is as you would expect from a semi and it hangs OK from a strap with maybe a wee tendency to nose down when you let go of the neck but that’s not a problem. I would recommend that you use a strap lock as the strap buttons are a little small for my preference or change them for larger ones.
As for playing, un-amplified the sound is great very jazzy and pure and more than adequate for quiet practicing if you do not want to disturb the neighbours.
I then put it thru my Laney amp (OK I know it’s an acoustic guitar amp but) and I was wowed by the tone and sounds of the Epi. They are so deep and bluesy using the neck pickup and bright using the bridge pick up. The guitar has the usual volume and tone controls for each pick up and a three way switch which is just below the bridge but doesn’t get in the way of playing.
After strumming a few chords I played a few scales and tried a couple of riffs, and it is just great. So I spent the next few hours playing and getting to know the guitar.
I then tried it through my Boss BR digital recorder so that I could try out using a few of the many onboard effects of this recorder with the Dot and it sounded great through the classic vintage British amp effect and other effects, such as Overdrive, Big Blues, Jazz Box and others.
To finish I would certainly recommend the Epiphone ES 335 Dot to anyone looking to buy a great looking guitar that looks and sounds very similar to a Gibson 335 but at a great budget price.
Anything I would change? Well I prefer flat wound strings rather than the standard wire wound which comes with the Dot but that is just my personal preference so at some point I will change then for a light gauge set of flats. Apart from the strings and possibly the strap buttons there is nothing else I would personally change.

Phoenix
PS I AM going to call this guitar Dorothy (sorry Man in the Jar I couldn't resist it)
