| | UIB02 card has been discontinued by Zoom. We have tried to source some in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. No joy, none available. Sorry. |

| I have been searching high and low for one of these. I believe i MIGHT have found a supplier in Czechoslovakia, but not speaking a word of the language i am unsure, i could not find a link to convert the site into English. Do a search for a UIB02 at www.musiker.ck and let me know if you have any luck. The cost is about £100($200), so not cheap.
I am considering whether i really need one of these now though, if its only real use is to transfer data to a pc, i may just do this using CD's. I was originally hoping it would allow me to manipulate sounds through both the machine and pc simultaneously, but i dont think it does this.
There is also one available right now at ebay.com for $250(buy it now) or $200(starting bid)

| The UIB-02 board enables the 1608 hard disk to be recognised by a computer. In other words, when you enable the USB mode, the 1608 hard disk is seen in Wndows Explorer or My Computer as an external hard disk. You can transfer data to and from the 1608 and I often do this - either to back up projects on to CD or DVD or to load projects on to the 1608 from a backup.
The 1608's internal writer will only write to CDs with their 800Mb limit. However, many of my projects are stage shows (2-3 hours of 8-track recording) and need a data DVD to back them up. This is where the UIB-02 is essential, because I can write directly to DVD via the computer.
What the UIB-02 will NOT do is to allow the 1608 to act as an audio interface for a computer. For that, you'll need the HD16, the follow-up to the 1608.

| Is it possible to create a USB connector by using an IDE to USB 2.0 convertor?

| Not sure what you mean. Unplug the 1608's hard disk or it's CD drive and put an IDE to USB adaptor in it's place? I don't think so. In USB mode, all other functions of the 1608 are disabled and it is controlled from the computer. In normal mode you have no way of addressing a computer.
Without the proper USB plug-in card, you're stuck.
