i am looking at buying a Marshall DSL or TSL head and run it through a 1960 4x12 cab. does anyone have any advice, opinions or expirance using either of these heads?

Both are fantastic, however the TSL is known to be somewhat unreliable, if you want rock solid then go with the DSL. TSLs have had no end of problems with the footswitch control circuit.

I've got the DSL401 combo - superb amp - play my SG, Strat, Epi Dot, Tele and my Yam A500 throough it. If you don't fancy lugging a half stack around consider this one. Rated at 40 watts but what a LOUD window rattlin' 40 watts.
