Just wondered if anyone has got their hands on this latest bit of kit from Boss. I'm not exactly the world's leading authority on home recording equipment, but this little beauty did catch my eye, mainly because of its small size. It's tiny!!!! Seems quite good value for money as well, with 4 tracks (and 8 v-tracks on each track), MP3 compatibility and playback, 300 or so drum patterns, mic and instrument inputs, microphone, SC card for storage, built-in guitar effects, tuner and more.

How do they manage to pack so much into such a small unit? Is it too good to be true? Or should I ask, is it too small to be good?

Not sure if stocks have reached UK shores yet or not. Quite fancy one of these for myself.

Hey Axe ive gone and ordered one of these boss micro's i am not really sure on the home recording front myself but i bought this not for the recording feature but for the MP3 playback and guitar cancel effects so i can learn some licks, i think it acts in the same way as the tascam unit for guitar training. The tascam one running off CD's and the boss off MP3's, i only just realised how good this bit of kit is for the money. If you've not seen it in action check the link at the bottom on the imuso page you linked, then on the boss us page click the yellow interactive button.

Also there is a video of some guy demonstrating some of the effects and features but its a little short in my opinion. I should be getting mine either sometime today or learly next week i'll be sure to come back and give you some full info on what the thing does.

Hi king - yeah, that would be great. Let us know what you think of it once you've had a chance to put it through its paces. Maybe you could post a review in the review section.

Thanks for the link by the way. I'm always pretty impressed with Boss's interactive demonstrations of their products. Especially good when you're thinking of buying something without checking it out in the flesh first.

I also have the Tascam GT-II. One of the best bits of kit I ever bought. It has really helped improve my playing, although one deficiency is the fact that it doesn't offer MP3 playback as the Micro-BR does. Does the Micro-BR have a loop facility as well? I find this most important on the Tascam, being able to play the same bit over and over again until I've nailed it. The clarity at slower speeds is pretty good on the Tascam, although it depends on what you're playing. It'll be interesting to see how the BR compares in this respect.

Cheers man.

Yo axe yeah i got it about 2 hours ago kinda late for the delivery guy they normally come at like 9 in the morning and wake you up, anyways ive had a little go of it. First impressions are that its a pretty smooth piece of kit. If you got a a dvd case about its smaller than half of one of thoes and the same thickness which is dam small. Not i pod small thought. Yeah you can loop the track your learning its got an A-B function, i tested it out with a pantera track walk but i guess it was proberly not the best to start with because the center cancel feature only killed the voice off the track and not the guitar lol. However on the track thats on the boss already (demo track) it cancels both the voice and the guitar very well, you can slighty hear the voice still. Back to time strech it was pretty stable all the way down to about 60-50% then it starts to get a tad shakey, it goes down to 25% but its poor at that level of speed. 50% is more than enought for me to work out what was going on in dime's solo which is cool as i am sure most will know he plays pretty darn fast.

I also had a quick go of the recorder seen as thats its main selling point and it was pretty much perfect from what i could hear, i heard what i played and it sounds just like i played it, and that was on the middle quality recording there is no faulting that at all. once ive gotten used to it and had it on the go for a few days i'll post a full review of this ace piece of kit. The manual is 130 pages and ive only read 4 so far lol.

IF you are thinking of getting right now this my advice right at this moment is get a usb lead: one side must be that smallers type, and get the power surply. lucky ive found a usb from a camera that works with it and the battries are already on half

Anyway ask away if you want to know more, and look for a review in the coming days.

Hey, thanks for letting us know your first impressions. With it being just on the market, it's got to hear what some of the first buyers think of it, so a full review will be much appreciated if you have time. I don't think I'm really prepared for just how small this thing is. Less than half the size of a dvd case!? Hell, that is small.

I think my wish list for christmas is probably more than full now, so I'll probably have to wait till the new year before I treat myself to one.

Cheers.

Hi Folks,

I'm new, only joined tonight.

I've got a micro br, it's a fun bit of kit but it eats batteries, so I'm looking for an adapter. I already have a FEW 9v adapterS with a centre negative and have always ran Boss pedals from them before but I'm reluctant to use them because the instruction manual only advises the Boss model.

Does it really matter or is it just a way for Boss to sell more stuff?

Any opinions?

Some tips for you!

You can set the power save display to ten seconds - it dims, this saves batteries. The units work fine with high power Hi-Mh batteries, the battery display drop to half power pretty quickly but Ni-Mh are a slightly lower voltage - but they stay like that for ages.

Search Ebay for Sony Mic* you will find a tiny stereo mic that will plug into the micro br for stereo recording (you have to switch plugin power on).

and best of all

go here
http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/_support/dld.cfm?ln=en&dsp=0&iCncd=687&iStcd=4

and download the br-900cd wav convertor software. It will read the micro br over usb or read the card from a reader and convert all 32 tracks to wav files that you can import into a sequencer!

Well, I use mine with a no-name brand adaptor. I don't recommend it though. If you want to try it, be sure to measure the precise voltage and recheck the polarity.

Just had a quick squiz at video demo but it does not meet my question.Perhaps some owner could advise. For example,if I record backing track from keyboard, then record guitar and vocal in turn, are the separate tracks volume adjustable for mixdown balance ? Any comment would be appreciated.Jim.
