| I bought the Laney at the start of this month and its been nothing short of amazing.
Functions:
Two channel, shared eq, reverb, bright switch, effects loop, speaker out (8 ohm), tone (like prescence) 10 inch Jensen speaker. 3 preamp valves 2 poweramp valves 15 watt valve amp
Sound
I use a crafter 335 copy and an ibanez rg series (just so you can see where im coming from on sound quality). The clean channel is great with the out of phase single coils on the rg (positions 2 and 4 on the selector switch) and also with the bridge of the 335 for clean lead, engage the bright switch and neck humbuckers sound like they never have before shimmering sparking cleans . The amp starts to break up as you get past about 5 on the volume control with the classic power amp distortion. if you can run it at 7 upwards it just sings with that classic blues tone... (no bright switch and bridge humbuckers the break up is amazing, and the sustain wow!)
The drive channel is great for classic british amp sounds... i like to run drive on about 5 with drive volume as hot as i can run without neighbours (bandmates) complaining for a creamy lo gain lead sound from the 335 , the ibanez with gain about 7-8 sounds amazing for rock. I desperately wana run this through a 2x12 inch speaker cab at somepoint for rock as the ten inch speaker is a bit trebly on these settings for my liking however for the clean and the lower gain this amp just sings!
The effects loop in my opinion is noisy (i get a lot of hum when using it) and it also sucks tone and gain from the amp so is redundant but you cannont possibly expect perfection from a valve amp in this price bracket. The reverb is good on lower settings and great on higher settings with the broken up clean channel for that classic blues lead. However most of the time i have the footswitch in and its off...
There is only one major wish i have for the sound and features on this amp, and thats install a standby please Laney! help protect those beautiful glass tubes making this amp sing like it does
In terms of build quality it seems solid enough and the metal cage protecting the valves is solid. There is a bit of vibration on the valves at higher volumes but my eventuall plans is to use this as a "head" for a 2x12 cab at those volumes which solves those problems (therefore prolonging the life of the valves as well) An outstanding product for the price it costs. I would reccomend it without hesitation. And imuso's early morning saturday delivery amazed me, i bought this with the deadline of moving back to college with a midday saturday train... and it arrived in plenty of time. |

| In addition to this over time my love for this amp has grown. im am constantly finding new tones on this amp, and tweaking my sound, this little beast captures blues perfectly with either the neck humbuckers on either of the guitars mentioned above, or on my strat, for pure basic amp tone, versatility and reliability i have never owned an amp like it, of course it will always sound like a lo-gain valve combo, unlike other amps in the price range, but i can cover almost any kind of music with this amp and a few tricks from pedals, so i find i dont need many amps in one, however it has proved tricky to find the perfect sweet spot for eq, the starting places they give you in the manual are good, but all three of my guitars power the amp very differently, and therefore each one needs unique amp settings, which is a slight fustrations, valves and build quality have been faultless and reliable, and i have no major worries with this amp over six months in.
