The Yamaha APX900 U electro acoustic guitar features a thinner profile than Yamaha's CPX series, 80-90mm compared to the CPX's 95-115mm, for a stylish performing guitar that fits a musician's body. Other features are the 3-way EQ and on-board tuner on the Yamaha System 57 preamp which uses Yamaha's ART Acoustic Resonance Tranducer for rich and natural tones and dramatic reduction in feedback.

Yamaha's ART Acoustic Resonance Transducer gold control panel 3-way Acoustic Resonance Tranducer found on the APX900 uses three piezo contact transducers, a dual piece under the saddle, a second contact pickup on the bass side, and a third on the treble side. The APX900 bracing has be modified to allow optimum pickup placement, to capture the sound's bass and treble components, as well as the vibrations of the entire length of strings and body.

Unlike convention piezo pickups, the ART Acoustic Resonance Transducer on the APX900 uses multiple layers of different damping materials between the under side of the guitar's topboard and the piezo crystal to dampen excessive vibrations which can cause distortion. The peizo remains responsive to small resonances, and achieves ideal sensitivity and dynamics for a natural acoustic tone even when amplified.
